The course is split into four units: marketing and people, managing business activities, business decisions and strategy, and global business. In year 1, students will build knowledge of core business concepts, applying them to business contexts to develop a broad understanding of how businesses work. Year 2 requires students to take a more strategic view of business opportunities and issues. Students are critical thinkers, able to understand and apply key business concepts, come to reasoned judgements, and communicate their ideas logically and coherently.
Lessons incorporate a wide range of activities, including independent work, research tasks and lively group discussions. Students use modern business news and case studies to gain a critical insight into current business opportunities and challenges. Students work through carefully structured topic booklets which include topic notes, exam style questions and lots of opportunitites to consolidate knowledge. In addition to this, students are equipped with the tools and the resources to study and learn independently throught the use of materials on our Teams platform and wider college resources.
Students have the opportunity to visit London to see the Bank of England and the Houses of Parliament to learn about their influence on business and the wider economy. We have also develeloped strong ties with local universities and students have the chance to participate in visits from guest speakers and a day of business workshops hosted by local universities.
You will require black biro pens, a couple of highlighters, pencil, ruler, a basic claculator and a lined notepad. You should also get hold of some ringbinders as you will build up a lot of notes and class booklets over the course.
The transferable skills gained will prepare you for a whole host of courses and careers.
